An Associate Professor of Operations Management and a member of the Scientific Council at Catolica Porto Business School. She is also a researcher at the Research Center in Management and Economics (CEGE) at Catolica Porto Business School. Her research provides policy and managerial insights for practitioners about digital platforms, supply chains, AI, social enterprises, and agriculture. She uses game theory and behavioural experiments in her research. Her research contributes to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): zero hunger, food security, improved nutrition (SDG 2), industry, innovation, and infrastructure (SDG 9), and responsible consumption and production (SDG 12). Her papers have appeared in leading operations journals, Management Science, Operations Research, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, and Production and Operations Management. Her research has been recognised with various awards. One of her papers received the winner award in the INFORMS Technology, Innovation Management, and Entrepreneurship Section (TIMES) Best Working Paper Competition in 2020, and another one received the runner-up award in the same competition in 2018. One of her experimental papers received the third prize in the POMS College of Behavior in OM Junior Scholar Paper Competition in 2024. Her other experimental paper became a finalist in the POMS College of Product Innovation and Technology Management (PITM) Best Student Paper Competition in 2025.
Before joining Católica Porto Business School, she was an assistant professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands. She has received three research excellence awards and Irene Curie Research Grant (€100,000) from the TU/e. Before joining TU/e, she taught at Bilkent University in Turkiye and worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UCL School of Management in the UK. Gizem received her PhD and MS from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University in the US and the BS from the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkiye.
She has served on the INFORMS TIMES Board from 2020 to 2025 and led the INFORMS TIMES community as the President of the INFORMS TIMES Board in 2023. The INFORMS TIMES recognised her service with the TIMES Distinguished Service Award in 2024.
