It is with profound sadness that Universidade Católica Portuguesa announces the passing of Professor Francisco Carvalho Guerra, a towering figure in the history of the University, the city of Porto, and science in Portugal.

One of the founders of the Porto Regional Centre of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, which he led for almost three decades, Professor Carvalho Guerra played a pivotal role in shaping and strengthening the institution. A Full Professor of Biochemistry, he also served as President of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society, President of the Portuguese Biochemical Society, and President of UCP's Porto Regional Centre, among many other positions of responsibility throughout a lifetime devoted to science, higher education and public service.

Affectionately known to many as "Father Guerra", Professor Carvalho Guerra was an inspiring presence for generations of students, academics and researchers. He played a decisive role in advancing scientific research in Portugal and in building bridges between reason and faith, and between science and culture.

As he returns to the Father's House, Universidade Católica Portuguesa pays tribute to his memory, his enduring legacy and his incomparable contribution. The University extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visionaries never truly disappear. Though no longer with us, the enduring mark of his life and work will remain.
