Economics Meet Yourself: a bridge between students, professors and professionals

Friday, February 21, 2025 - 12:58

On 19 February, Católica Porto Business School organised the 3rd edition of Economics Meet Yourself, an event that brings together Economics undergraduate students, professors from the Economics Department and a guest economist. The initiative, organised by the Department of Economics in partnership with the School's Management, provides a space to share experiences and perspectives on the career path in Economics.

The meeting took place in the restaurant of the Américo Amorim Building and this year Francisca Guedes de Oliveira, Católica Porto Business School professor and Banco de Portugal administrator, was the guest speaker. The session was opened by the school's dean, João Pinto, who emphasised the importance of this type of event for students' education.

During her speech, Francisca Guedes de Oliveira shared a professional career marked by diversity and impact in different sectors. In university teaching, she was linked to Católica Porto Business School, where she held the position of director of the Master's in Business Economics until 2013 and then took on the role of associate dean for master's programmes and faculty management until 2020. She has taught various subjects, including Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Multidisciplinary Project.

Her career has also spanned the business sector, having joined EDP Renováveis as a non-executive Board Member and Unilabs Portugal, where she experienced a challenging period of intense growth in the health sector, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. She was later involved in World Expo 2020 Dubai, the Economic and Social Council and AICEP Portugal Global, before joining the public sector as an administrator at Banco de Portugal.

Despite her many experiences, Francisca Guedes de Oliveira left her students with a clear message: "When people ask me what my career is, I answer that I'm a university professor", encouraging them to take risks, but always with a clear vision of their goals.

The session ended with a speech by Leonardo Costa, director of the Economics Department, who encouraged the students to take advantage of all the opportunities and to maintain a continuous link with Católica Porto Business School.

On 18 March and 15 May, the Católica Porto Business School Open Days will take place, where all doubts and questions regarding our 1st cycle training offers will be answered: Management, Economics and Double Degree in Law and Management.
