The result of a partnership between Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Católica Porto Business School and Faculty of Biotechnology) and University of Azores (School of Agrarian and Environmental Sciences and School of Business and Economics), the Postgraduate Programme in Sustainable Management aims to train professionals to integrate sustainability into the core of organisations' strategic and operational decisions. Scheduled to begin in September 2025, classes will take place at the Angra do Heroísmo Campus on Terceira Island.
The programme has a multidisciplinary and practical approach, combining sustainability with areas such as finance, marketing, leadership and corporate strategy. Throughout the course, participants will develop an action plan for sustainability tailored to the realities of their companies or areas of intervention.
"We need leaders who know how to create value without compromising the future", says João Pinto, dean of Católica Porto Business School and one of the directors of the postgraduate programme". This training responds to the urgent need to prepare professionals capable of making informed, ethical decisions that are aligned with the environmental and social challenges we face.
Nuno Martins, professor at Católica Porto Business School and another of the postgraduate programme directors, also emphasises the programme's relevance: "The complex problems we face require integrated solutions. The Postgraduate Programme in Sustainable Management combines strategic thinking with sustainability and responds to a real need in organisations".
The partnership with the University of the Azores gives the programme a relevant territorial and environmental dimension. For João Carlos Teixeira, director of the postgraduate programme and professorat the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Azorean institution, "this training represents an opportunity to prepare staff who understand the value of sustainability in real and peripheral contexts, with a direct impact on local communities and ecosystems".'
