Rui Soucasaux Sousa, full professor and director of S.Lab - Service Management Lab at Católica Porto Business School, was invited to coordinate the EDEN Doctoral Seminar on Research Methodologies in Operations Management at the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM), in Brussels, which took place from January 29th to February, 2nd.
Created more than 20 years ago, the EDEN Doctoral Seminar was designed to cater to PhD students in Operations Management. The programme addressed the four main empirical research methods used in Operations Management to provide participants with insights into the strengths and weaknesses of each one and in which cases they should use the different methodologies.
The seminar has become a reference initiative in doctoral training in Europe, having already involved more than 600 students, who later took on academic positions in prestigious business schools. EIASM is an international management research and education network that brings together more than 70,000 management scientists worldwide.
Rui Soucasaux Sousa has a PhD in Operations Management from London Business School and a Masters in Operations Research from Lancaster University. His research work has received several international awards and has been published in the most prestigious scientific journals in the field. In October 2023, he was one of the most cited researchers in the world, according to Stanford University. In addition to research, he carried out projects for organisations such as Siemens, EDP, Sonae, and the Ministry of Finance. He was also Dean of Católica Porto Business School from 2020 until 2023, and taught at several national and international business schools, such as the London Business School, London School of Economics, and European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (Brussels).
