Guilherme da Costa Pimenta, a 2nd-year student of the Management degree at Católica Porto Business School, and Xavier Rendeiro Silva Cunha, a 2nd-year student of the Double Degree in Law and Management at Católica Porto Business School and Escola do Porto da Faculdade de Direito, They are two of the four students from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) who received the Gulbenkian New Talents 2023 Scholarship.

Guilherme da Costa Pimenta sees this distinction with "huge pride": "It is a great recognition of all the effort and dedication that guided my academic journey, being the ideal stimulus to keep me motivated". For future candidates, he says: "Although the scholarship is called "New Talents", talent is only 1% of the success formula. It is hard work and resilience that allow us to go further, as students, and as people."

Xavier Rendeiro Silva Cunha hopes "to be able to enrich his academic, intellectual and personal career, by having a first contact with the world of research, taking advantage of the international opportunities that the Scholarship makes possible". And for anyone who wants to apply in the future, he adds: "I naturally recommend the commitment and study necessary to meet the quantitative requirements for the scholarship. On the other hand, and perhaps more difficult, I would tell a potential candidate to try to cultivate a genuine taste for research, which is nothing if not the search for knowledge, which should guide any student, but, in particular, any scholarship holder".

From UCP, Marta Cansado, from the Law degree at the Lisbon School of the UCP Faculty of Law, and Camila Monteiro, from the Management degree at the Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics, were also awarded prizes. The four students were recognized as exceptional students by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and will have the opportunity to participate in an immersive talent enrichment program.

The Gulbenkian New Talents Scholarship can reach up to three thousand five hundred euros and aims to encourage initiation into research through support for further studies, advanced training courses, participation in conferences and summer schools, internships, language courses, and acquisition of books and laboratory materials, among others. It also includes an integrated program that involves monitoring tutors, scientific committees, scientific retreats and workshops.
