On 18 February, Católica Porto Business School hosted the fourth edition of Economics Meets Yourself, an initiative that brings together Economics undergraduate students, faculty from the Department of Economics and the School’s alumni for an opportunity to connect and share professional journeys.
The gathering took place at the restaurant in the Américo Amorim Building and welcomed Sofia Nogueira da Silva, Assistant Professor at Católica Porto Business School, as the guest speaker. The session gave students the opportunity to learn first-hand about an academic and professional path shaped by the connection between economics, regulation and health policy.
A graduate in Economics from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto, Sofia Nogueira da Silva holds a PhD in Economics and a Master’s in Health Economics from the University of York (UK). Throughout her career, she has carried out academic work and collaborated with several national and international organisations, serving on the Advisory Board of the Health Insurance Observatory of the Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority and working with institutions such as the European Commission, the World Bank, the Ministry of Health, the Court of Auditors, the Portuguese Competition Authority, Infarmed, the Portuguese Association of Insurers and the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation.
Between 2016 and 2023, she served as President of the Health Regulatory Authority. She was also Vice-President of the Portuguese Association of Health Economics and was a member of the Board of CEDIPRE – the Centre for Studies in Public Law and Regulation at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.
During her talk, she highlighted the importance of a strong foundation in Economics as a starting point for diverse career paths and for making a meaningful contribution to public policy, underlining the role of economic analysis in regulation and decision-making.
The event concluded with a moment of dialogue between students, faculty and alumni, reinforcing the close-knit spirit that characterises the Católica Porto Business School community and the importance of maintaining active links between different generations of economists who studied at the School.
On 16 April and 26 May, Católica Porto Business School will host its Open Days, dedicated to presenting the School’s undergraduate programmes: the Bachelor’s in Management, the Bachelor’s in Economics and the Double Degree in Law and Management. Register here.
