Católica Porto Business School was present last week at the Innovation Forum, an economic forum dedicated to new trends and innovations organised by the Portuguese-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in partnership with ANI (National Innovation Agency) and COTEC Portugal. The meeting, which took place in the auditorium of ANJE (National Association of Young Entrepreneurs), brought together leaders and experts from various fields, including the dean of Católica Porto Business School, João Pinto, to discuss the future of innovation in Portugal.

João Pinto took part in the round table on "Disruptive Innovation: How to Break with the Status Quo", together with António Braz Costa, Director General of CITEVE, Ana Margarida Faria, head of Analytics & Business Intelligence for B2B at NOS, and moderated by Pedro Nunes Oliveira Machado, Country Senior Director Data Protection Officer at the Ageas Portugal Group.

During his speech, the dean of Católica Porto Business School emphasised that "in the Portuguese business context, innovation plays an important role in promoting sustainable growth and consolidating global competitiveness. But for process and product innovation to have an impact and create real value, three ingredients must be present: leadership, strategy and sustainability".

He also adds that "some technologies are now seen as fundamental in the process of change towards a more sustainable and regenerative society and economy, such as renewable energies, electric mobility and artificial intelligence. In the latter case, the application of AI models to specific sectors can play a truly transformational role. For example, in the production process so that they reach the most disadvantaged areas of the planet. And we at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto, via INSURE.Hub, are promoting partnerships with American universities and companies in this sector."

The Innovation Forum was a space for debate and reflection on the importance of innovation as a competitive advantage and an essential necessity for business growth. During the event, topics such as emerging technological trends and digital transformation, R&D (research and development) as a competitive strategy, and the EUREKA NETWORK, the largest international public funding network for industrial R&D, were also discussed.
