As part of the Sustainability Week at UCP, on November 27th, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, in the Carvalho Guerra Auditorium, the conference “Poverty, Social Exclusion and Mental Health in Higher Education: an urgent challenge” will take place, a partnership between EAPN Portugal, Católica Porto Business School and the Faculty of Education and Psychology of UCP, in Porto.

The theme of mental health and its bidirectional relationship with poverty and social exclusion is one of the areas that EAPN Portugal / European Anti-Poverty Network has followed with special attention. Several studies show that higher education students have been presenting increasing levels of psychological distress, with direct impacts on their quality of life, academic performance and social integration.

In particular, the most socioeconomically vulnerable students are often those with the least access to psychological and emotional support services, facing greater obstacles to reaching their potential.

These inequalities translate into urgent challenges that require in-depth reflection and joint action. This meeting aims to promote good practices and mobilise the academic, technical, and political communities to build more humane and inclusive responses. Participate and join this collective reflection on the future of higher education and the right to mental health for all.

In addition to the opening remarks by Isabel Braga da Cruz, Pro-Rector of UCP, there will be a moderation by Raquel Campos Franco, professor at Católica Porto Business School, and a presentation by Valquíria Dias from the Career Development Office.

Conference in Portuguese only.
