Economics meets yourself is a joint initiative of the Department of Economics and the Board of Católica Porto Business School (CPBS), whose objective is to bring together students of the degree in economics, teachers from the economics department and a guest speaker at a lunch of his professional experience as an economist to the students.
The event, whose 2nd edition took place last Wednesday, February 28th, in the restaurant of the Américo Amorim Building, this year was attended by António Figueiredo, economist and Director of Strategy and Innovation at the company Quaternaire Portugal, as a guest speaker.
During his speech, António Figueiredo shared his professional career, which he classified as an “atypical economist,” with those present. There, he performed and combined teaching and research functions with consultancy functions, which nowadays is very difficult to do. In his words, the economics course is quite “elastic”, developing in students skills and knowledge that allow them to build a versatile professional or academic career. Furthermore, he referred to the areas of “territorial economics”, rediscovered in more recent times through the “innovation economy”, and “organisational sciences” as clearly lacking areas in Portugal, lacking professional economists.
As a Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP), António Figueiredo was responsible for teaching courses in the areas of development economics, globalisation, innovation and macroeconomics, also having numerous published works. He was also a guest professor at CPBS, teaching development economics. As a consultant, his activity stands out for the Coordination Committee of the Northern Region, within the scope of advising the Presidency (1980-1992), and for several local authorities, within the scope of the company Quaternaire-Portugal, of which he was the CEO of several years. Since 2018, he has taken over the Strategy and Innovation Department of the company above.
On April 16th and May 21st, the CPBS Open Days will take place, in which we will clarify all doubts and questions regarding our 1st cycle training offers: Management, Economics and Double Degree in Law and Management. Find out more here.
