Alberto Castro, guest professor at Católica Porto Business School, of which he was the first director, and student provider at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto, was distinguished with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 35th edition of the Investor Relations and Governance Awards.
The IRGAwards are an initiative that Deloitte has promoted for more than three decades in Portugal, with the purpose of rewarding organizations and personalities that have contributed the most and best to making the market more efficient, transparent, socially responsible and useful to the economy and to the portuguese society.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes personalities whose career has had a significant impact on market development. In the words of Vítor Bento, President of the IRGAwards Jury, Alberto Castro is “a remarkable figure (…) a “not very theoretical economist”, whose vision transcends the traditional limits of the discipline and resides in a more humanitarian perspective. His understanding of the transforming potential of the economy thus goes beyond the merely theoretical, entering a field where theory meets the reality experienced by people.”
As Vítor Bento said, in conclusion “we grant the Lifetime Achievement Award to someone who has become an inspiring leader, who has committed to transforming the study of economics, using it as a tool in favor of People. It is a great example to be followed, and we hope that it will serve as an inspiration for innovation and humanism to deal with the great transformations that the world is experiencing.”
