Generic Bio

Rui Vieira da Cunha graduated in Law (2003) and practiced as a lawyer for five years, before completing his degree in Philosophy (2008). He has a postgraduate degree in Legal Medicine (2004) and another in Teaching (2009).

He is a member of MLAG (Group of Mind, Language and Action) of the Institute of Philosophy of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto and is doing his PhD on the concept of person and the problem of personal identity, having published on these and other related issues, which are the core of his thesis's area of specialization. His mains research interests lie on various subjects in the intersection of philosophy and law (free will, human dignity, human improvement, punishment purposes, etc.).

From 2013 to 2016, he joined the Scientific Communication Unit of IBMC (Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology), now i3s (Institute of Research and Innovation in Health), under the European project NERRI (Neuro‑Enhancement Responsible Research and Innovation). Since 2019 he has been a member of the Ethics Committee of i3s (Institute for Research and Innovation in Health).

He is also a lecturer in the Business School of the Catholic University of Porto (namely on the 1st cycle courses of Social Philosophy and Ethics; Christianity, Cultures and Organizations; and Multidisciplinary Project, which focuses on argumentation and informal logic) and a member of ARGH (Argumentation Hub) in the Media Innovation Labs of the University of Porto.
