On 24 March, Católica Porto Business School, in partnership with the Seal Group, hosted another edition of Beyond Business, a luncheon-debate that brought together business leaders for a session of networking, sharing and reflection on contemporary challenges.

The event featured José Azeredo Lopes, Faculty member of the UCP and former Minister of Defence, as guest speaker, who challenged those present to consider the current international context through the lens of an “upside-down world”.

Throughout his speech, topics such as current geopolitical tensions, social paradoxes and the new power dilemmas shaping the global landscape were addressed. Speaking in a direct tone, José Azeredo Lopes emphasised that “we are no longer in a permanent crisis, but in a permanent state of war”, highlighting the complexity and instability that characterise the present moment.

From a European perspective, the speaker also defended the importance of a realistic approach based on strengthening institutions and international law, noting that “it is through democracy and respect for international law that we become stronger”.

The session was attended by representatives from various companies, including several CEOs and decision-makers, in an atmosphere marked by active participation and the exchange of ideas.

With Beyond Business, Católica Porto Business School continues to establish itself as a bridge between academia and business, promoting opportunities for strategic reflection on issues with a direct impact on society and the economy.
